“The Reluctant Duchess” – Book Review
Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Roseanna White’s newest release, The Reluctant Duchess.
As is my custom, if I could ask Roseanna one question about The Reluctant Duchess it would be — “What drew you to writing about Rowenna’s past in the Highlands” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!
And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!
From the Back Cover:
Lady Rowena Kinnaird may be the heiress to a Highland earldom, but she has never felt good enough–not for her father, not for the man she thought she’d marry, not for God. But after a shocking attack, she’s willing to be forever an outcast if it means escaping Loch Morar.
Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has found himself in possession of a rare treasure his enemies are prepared to kill for. While Brice has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, the last thing he needs is the distraction of Lady Rowena, who finds herself in a desperate situation. But when Rowena’s father tries to trap Brice into marrying his daughter, Brice makes a surprising decision.
Rowena wanted to escape the Highlands, but she’s reluctant to marry a notorious flirt. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she’s about to end up directly in the path of everything she was trying to avoid.

A lovely read by Roseanna White! If you are missing Downton Abbey (or just love that time period), you will fall in love with Brice, Rowena, and all of the characters in Roseanna’s books.
Rowena is quiet and unsure of herself, especially after she has been hurt by those she has loved. She begins to wonder if she is even worth being loved and if God could ever love her. Enter in Brice, the noble hero, who sweeps up Rowena, promising to love her, despite her wariness. The two had me wondering from the beginning how they would solve their differences and find the love that God had intended for them.
While this book can probably be read alone, I would highly recommend reading the first one, The Lost Heiress, first. Both books tie into each other with the same characters and also continue with the plot line: fire eyes. While the reader can feel satisfied in the ending of each book, there is a measure of relief knowing that there is a third book!
This book has been given to me by Bethany House in exchange for an honest review which I have given.
Other books by Roseanna I will read next:
A Lady Unrivaled (Ladies of the Manor)
Ring of Secrets (Culper Ring Book 1)
Whispers from the Shadows (Culper Ring Series)
