Jun 29, 2015 by

Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I apologize for not posting a review last week, but I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Denise Hunter’s book, Barefoot Summer. I couldn’t wait to read Denise’s new series and I wasn’t disappointed!   As is my custom, if I could ask Denise one question about Barefoot Summer, it would be — “What made you want to write about the McKinley family?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!   And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!                                                          ...

Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! Another Friday interview! Today’s interview is with Carrie Turanksy. This past Monday, I had the opportunity to review her book The Governess of Highland Hall. To start off today’s interview, could you tell us when you knew you wanted to be a writer. CT: I’ve always loved to read and wrote my first book, by hand, at age 12. But after that I followed my interest in art and graduated with a BA in Fine Art. I homeschooled my five children and we read a lot of historical fiction aloud. Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Carrie Turansky’s novel, The Governess of Highland Hall. This was my first book that I read of Carrie’s and it was even more enjoyable after meeting Carrie in person!   As is my custom, if I could ask Carrie one question about The Governess of Highland Hall, it would be — “Why did you decide to write a book with a Downton Abbey/Jane Eyre feel to it?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!   And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk! From the Back Cover: Missionary Julia Foster loves working alongside her parents, ministering and caring for young...

Jun 5, 2015 by

While you may have remembered me interviewing Jody Hedlund before, this week, I am celebrating the release of her newest book Hearts Made Whole. So without further ado, on to Rachel’s Back Talk – Special Edition! Interview: RR: Hi Jody! I’m so glad you could join me here today! So to start off to today, can you tell us how you came up with the idea for Hearts Made Whole? JH: Historical textbooks are full of stories about men like George Washington, Thomas Edison, Andrew Carnegie, and so many more.  And while such men are truly remarkable, all too often their stories overshadow equally courageous and remarkable women. One of my goals as an author is to help bring forgotten women of the past to life. In the Beacons of Hope...
