“The Lieutenant’s Bargain” ~ Book Review
Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Regina Jennings’s newest release, The Lieutenant’s Bargain!
As is my custom, if I could ask Regina one question about The Lieutenant’s Bargin it would be — “How was it to write Hattie painting such life-like pictures? You made them positively sound like they were real life!” And if you want to know why I asked them, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!
And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!
From the Back Cover:
She Was Supposed to Be Gaining Independence. What She Found Was Even Better . . .
Hattie Walker dreams of becoming a painter, but her parents want her to settle down. As a compromise, they give her two months to go to Denver and place her works in an exhibition. Her journey is derailed when a gunman attacks her stagecoach, leaving her to be rescued by a group of Arapaho . . . but she’s too terrified to recognize them as friendly.
Confirmed bachelor Lieutenant Jack Hennessey has long worked with the tribe and is tasked with trying to convince them that the mission school at Fort Reno can help their children. When a message arrives about a recovered survivor, Jack heads out to retrieve her–and plead his case with the chief once more.
He’s stunned to run into Hattie Walker, the girl who shattered his heart years ago, but quickly realizes he has a chance to impress her. When his plan gets tangled through translation, Jack and Hattie end up in a mess that puts her dreams in peril and threatens to destroy his life’s work.
Rachel’s Back Talk:
5 – award winning covers
This book was filled with such wonderful adventures! I loved the way Regina told Hattie and Jack’s story and in such a way that kept me turning each page, just waiting to see what happened. And let’s be honest, the cover alone made me want to read with anticipation! 🙂
Hattie was a girl with spunk and determination. I loved how she wanted to prove to her parents that she was made to do more then just marry the first person who came along (with lots of money of course!). Hattie wanted to paint and she was dead-set on doing that, even with the perpetual dangers that came along with that.
Enter into the scene, Lieutenant Jack, a childhood friend whose love was unfortunately, only one-sided — his. But Jack was determined to be honorable at all times and it was through that kindness that Jack and Hattie managed to forge a friendship.
Honestly, I loved this marriage of convenience story. While it seemed crazy in the beginning, as the story progressed, I couldn’t wait to see if/how Hattie and Jack would manage to navigate the crazy journey and stay together in the end.
I received a free copy from the author. No review, positive or otherwise, was required — all opinions are my own.
Such a great story. I had so many favorite scenes, and the historical background was just fantastic. I love how Regina doesn’t just give her characters the easy way out. There is always a wonderful inspirational message to take away with each book.I loved the series!
