“At Your Request” ~ Book Review

Apr 17, 2017 by

Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Jen Turano’s novella introducing her newest series, At Your Request.

As is my custom, if I could ask Jen one question about At Your Request it would be — “What made you want to write a series about the wallflowers?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!

And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!

From the Back Cover:

After her father lost the family’s fortune, Wilhelmina was cast out of the fashionable set and banished to the wallflower section. Taking a position as a social secretary to help support her family, she’s mostly come to terms with her new status. But when her old friend Edgar returns to New York society for the first time since she rejected his marriage proposal, she’s newly ashamed at how far she’s fallen–and how hastily she dismissed him years ago. Her strategy is to avoid a face-to-face encounter at all costs, but he seems to have other plans. Will Edgar take advantage of their now reversed positions and make her regret her refusal, or is there still hope for a friendship between them–or something more?

I absolutely adored this novella! Of course, I always love Jen’s stories and the predicaments the characters sometimes find themselves in! And so, this novella was a perfect start to Jen’s newest series, “Apart from the Crowd.”

Wilhelmina and Edger are the classic childhood sweetheart couple, with one exception, they were not always sweethearts. This is one of my favorite storylines, because I think there is something so special with the childhood-sweetheart plot! Wilhelmina never expected to see her childhood friend again, yet when she did, realized that she felt something different. Now, she is the wallflower and Edger is the center of the ball! Their lively banter kept me reading page after page and I loved the way Edger took to wooing his wallflower!

This novella also provides a wonderful prelude to a few of the other characters we will be seeing in the sequential books! I can’t wait, Jen! And by the way, the names of the characters are just spot on!
