“A Daring Sacrifice” ~ Book Review
Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Jody Hedlund’s book, A Daring Sacrifice.
As is my custom, if I could ask Jody one question about A Daring Sacrifice it would be — “What was your favorite part about giving Lord Collin his own story?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!
And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!
From the Back Cover:
In a reverse twist on the Robin Hood story, a young medieval maiden stands up for the rights of the mistreated, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. All the while, she fights against her cruel uncle who has taken over the land that is rightfully hers. Forced to live in the woods and hide with the poor people she’s grown to love, she works to save and protect them, but she never anticipates falling in love with the wealthy knight who represents all she’s come to despise.

Reading this book was a great sequel for the first one of Jody’s YA series. I was so excited when I found out that this book now highlighted the story of Sir Collin (who became Lord Collin later in the book). While this story does pick up not long after An Uncertain Choice ended, the books certainly don’t have to be read in order.
Lady Juliana is brave and determined, and yet deep down, she yearns for the protection and love that she felt as a child. She tries to hide her feelings from herself, but she knows what she must do. I loved watching the love blossom between Juliana and Collin. As the end of the book rolled around, I was almost in tears at the way both Juliana and Collin realized how much they loved each other, yet it seemed that there was nothing that could be done about it.
All the gory aspects came with the time period that the book was set in. While it is hard for us to even imagine the unbearable pain that came with using such torture methods, the history of the book only becomes more real.
*I received this book from Zondervan in exchange for an honest review which I have given*
