“Love Unexpected” Book Review
Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing the first book of Jody Hedlund’s newest series, Love Unexpected. Just last week, I reviewed the prequel to the series “Beacons of Hope” and today is the release date of this book! So exciting!!
As is my custom, if I could ask Jody one question about Love Unexpected, it would be — “Why did you allow Patrick’s past to be so ‘unworthy’ and make him involved with pirates?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!
And without further ado, on to Rachel’s Back Talk!
From the Back Cover:
All Emma Chambers ever wanted was a home, but when her steamboat sinks just outside Presque Isle, she’s left destitute and with no place to stay.
An unlikely solution arises when the lighthouse keeper arrives in town. He’s just lost his wife and is having a difficult time caring for his child. So a traveling preacher gets the idea that the keeper and Emma might be the answer to each other’s dilemma. After a hasty marriage, she finds herself heading to the lighthouse with this handsome but quiet stranger. Nothing in her aimless life, though, has prepared her for parenting a rambunctious toddler, as well as managing a household.
Emma soon suspects Patrick may be hiding something from her, and then she hears a disturbing rumor about the circumstances surrounding his late wife’s death. It seems as if her wish for a home and family of her own could end up leading her once more into turbulent waters.

5 – award winning covers
Another award winning story from Jody Hedlund! I just can’t get enough of her books! Love Unexpected was a captivating tale that had me rooting for Emma and Patrick to be able to survive the turbulent waters in which they were tossed.
I love Emma and I think that if I had to chose, she is one fictional character that I would like to meet. Emma is a shy, sweet girl and all she longs for in life is stability and a home. The way in which she conducts herself is filled with uncertainty, yet she has that desire in that she wants to please those around her. She struggles with knowing who to trust, and rightly so from my viewpoint!
The Christian emphasis was especially touching. Patrick’s story, I feel, helps anyone reading to truly know that there is forgiveness in Christ. And after a while, we have to forgive ourselves as well.
As a side note, I loved how Isabelle and Henry’s story was mentioned in a unique way. I was wondering how the prologue would tie in with the story, and I felt it did so perfectly!
