“Into the Whirlwind” Book Review

Feb 9, 2015 by

Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Elizabeth’s Camden’s book Into the Whirlwind. This is the first book that I have read of Elizabeth’s and I was absolutely swept away!!

As is my custom, if I could ask Elizabeth one question about Into the Whirlwind, it would be — “Was it difficult writing about what actually happened during the Chicago fire?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!

And without further ado, on to Rachel’s Back Talk!

I was absolutely blown away by Elizabeth Camden’s book! This book left me satisfied and breathless. When I first picked it up, I was going to read only two chapters, but that was eight chapters ago. A week later, the book was finished! This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was panting, weeping, and laughing with the characters.

Mollie was wonderful. She was a character that one doesn’t often see, but she is so relateable. She was steadfast, determined, and loyal. The courage she displayed all throughout the book, especially in the fire, was so commendable. I hurt so deeply for her when she was deceived, and I was utterly relieved when she realized the truth.

The Chicago fire was a great aspect of the book. The during and aftermath of the fire was very believable. I found myself cringing as Zach and Mollie rushed through the fire trying to save whoever and whatever they could. The bond between Zach and Mollie was beautiful. Even though it might have seemed a little quick, it felt genuine. Disasters have a way of bringing people’s feelings to the surface and becoming real.
