“A Lady Unrivaled” ~ Book Review

Oct 17, 2016 by

Welcome back to Rachel’s Back Talk! I’m so glad you could join me again. Today I am reviewing Roseanna White’s third and final book of her “Ladies of the Manor” series, A Lady Unrivaled.

As is my custom, if I could ask Roseanna one question about A Lady Unrivaled, it would be — “How could you decide what would be a satisfactory end to the Fire Eyes journey?” And if you want to know why I asked that question, I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out!

And without further ado, onto Rachel’s Back Talk!

From the Back Cover:

Lady Ella Myerston can always find a reason to smile–even if it’s just in hope that tomorrow will be better than today. All her life everyone has tried to protect her from the realities of the world, but Ella knows very well the danger that has haunted her brother and their friend, and she won’t wait for it to strike again. She intends to take action . . . and if that happens to involve an adventurous trip to the Cotswolds, then so much the better.

Lord Cayton has already broken two hearts, including that of his first wife, who died before he could convince himself to love her. Now he’s determined to live a better life. But that proves complicated when old friends arrive on the scene and try to threaten him into a life of crime. He does his best to remove the intriguing Lady Ella from danger, but the stubborn girl won’t budge. How else can he redeem himself, though, but by saving her–and his daughter–from those dangerous people who seem ready to destroy them all?

This is one of my favorite series – EVER!  Roseanna’s books hold such a beautiful combination of historical details, mystery, and romance that she makes it impossible not to fall in love with the characters. One reason I liked this series so much, was that the main story/plot idea carried through all books. The characters were familiar, but a different one was highlighted in each book.

Lady Ella is close to being my favorite heroine in all three books. I loved her spontaneous, fun-loving personality and her fierce determination to protect her family and those she loved. She was not afraid to have fun with Cayton and she was never one to be told what to do because she was a lady.

And the Fire Eyes mystery was finally solved! It was such a relief to see Rushworth receive his justice, Catherine receive the help that she needed, and Brooke, Justin, Brice, Rowenna, Cayton, and Ella could all move on with their life. I was almost sad to see it resolved because there would be no more tension and drama, but I was relieved for the characters’ sake. I must say, Roseanna picked the PERFECT ending that was also realistic.

If you are looking for a book/series to tug on your heart and make you cry for and along with the characters, this is the one!

I received a free copy from the author. No review, positive or otherwise, was required — all opinions are my own.
